A Matter of Balance

A little more confidence.
A little less worry about falling.

Maybe you’ve stopped taking a favorite walk or feel less sure on your feet than you used to. When you’re worried about falling, it can be harder to keep doing the things you enjoy. A Matter of Balance helps you work through those concerns and learn practical ways to feel more confident in your everyday life.

It’s also a chance to meet new people and share experiences with others who understand those worries. You’ll learn together, encourage one another, and find steps that work for you.

Is this program for you?

A Matter of Balance may help if you:

  • Have fallen in the past or worry about falling.

  • Avoid things you enjoy because you’re afraid of falling.

  • Want to improve your strength, flexibility, and balance.

“I think the first time I went to the Adult Day Program, I left with tears. It felt good to finally know I had some help, and it was help from people that I trusted.”

What you’ll learn

This nationally recognized, evidence-based program brings people together for discussion and shared problem-solving. You’ll learn ways to:

  • See falls as something you can take steps to control.

  • Set goals and gradually increase your activity.

  • Make changes around your home to reduce fall risks.

  • Build strength and balance through exercise.

  • Take an active role in reducing your risk of falling.

You’ll have time to ask questions, talk through concerns, and explore solutions that fit your everyday life.

What to expect

A Matter of Balance is offered in person and virtually, with eight two-hour sessions, meeting once or twice a week.

Discussion and brainstorming are part of the workshop, with strength and balance exercises beginning in the third session. You’ll work toward your own goals while learning alongside others.
